Terrific local Mexican American dive. No atmosphere. But the food is awesome. Courteous quick service.

My son picked up lunch today and brought me a chicken burrito from Cazuela. He did comment that it looked like they were either just opening or remodeling. He brought the bag and I could tell it was heavy. It smelled great, first bite was delicious there was plenty of rice, beans and big chunks of juicy chicken as I continued to enjoy my meal. I was eating outside and it is a good thing as the red sauce that the chicken was stewed was leaking out of the tortilla. I will be back to try another.

I had a burrito Cazuela Comida tonight and couldn't have been happier. I picked it up and when I got home I microwaved it to extra hot. It was a generous size, and filled with delicious black beans, rice, chicken and cheese, and pan crisped on the outside. It had no salsa or lettuce in it which was perfect for me. Really robust and satisfying for a cold night. I had it with some Cupcake Vineyards Pinot Grigio. Very tasty!

tl;dr: Four stars for the food. Please do try this place, so they can keep serving it. Okay, this review is going to be a bit awkward. I debated over it. I decided it was more important for them to get a second, independent review than my current practice (as we crawl our way out of you know what) of not reviewing places I can't give a nearly-all-positive review. I don't usually talk that much about the space or the business. It looks like they took over the space from another business that's been around for a while. There's some clutter. It's dim. I think they keep the lights down unless there's a customer. The electric Open sign in the front window apparently doesn't work. The first time I went by, last week, I thought it was closed. This time, the proprietor saw me looking in and came out, and that's how I found out it was open. It *is* clean, if worn. I suggest you brave it. The food is, as the first reviewer stated, quite good. I ordered the seasoned vegetable plate plus a side of vegs. When there's only one vegetarian entree on the menu, that's a cause for worry that they might not give it the most care. Even more so, I heard the ding of a microwave and the food came out quickly. (I'm not a microwave snob, that's how I cook at home, but it can be a shortcut.) So I set my expectations low. I needn't have worried. They do give it the most care. It was flavorful, a generous portion of veggies (green beans being the main veg, which I liked and I'm not normally into green beans, broccoli, carrot, and a bit of onion) well seasoned, served with whole black beans and Mexican rice (can't guarantee the rice is vegetarian, if it's an issue you might want to ask) and tortillas. It was heated through as well, so if it was microwaved it was competently microwaved. The plate contents appear to be vegan, but you might want to verify that if it's important to you. Anyway, I was happy with the food and do want to try the chicken mole. I would order the veggie dish again. I can understand why they might want to use the microwave. It was pretty deserted about 1 pm on a Saturday. No pickup orders even though I saw a Doordash sign. They have a need to avoid food waste, so they probably prepare the dishes then keep them in the fridge so they stay good. Try this place. Give them the business they need to be able to upgrade to the business they want to be. The food is worth it.

COVID-19 TAKEOUT Mole poblano is complex and difficult to make. It's also time-consuming and can take more than 30 ingredients to make. Not that I would know though (hello, Food Network!), as I've never attempted to make it. I can't even fry an egg without oil splattering in my eye. So, if a restaurant offers it, take my monies! I drove by Cazuela Comida Mexicana last week but already placed my takeout order at a restaurant in The Excelsior so I made a mental note to return. A week later and still no Yelp reviews? Cazuela Comida Mexicana took over the Chico's Grill location serving breakfast, lunch, dinner: huevos rancheros, chilaquiles, tacos, burritos, quesadilla, enchiladas, mole poblano, etc. They opened last month, offering indoor dining, takeout, and delivery available. I called in my takeout order and it was ready in 10 minutes, as stated. F O O D * Mole Poblano w/ chicken, rice, beans, and housemade tortillas ($19.95) The mole sauce was richly spiced and satisfying with a good balance of sweet, bitterness, and a touch of heat. While there was a generous portion of skinless, boneless chicken breast, some pieces were a bit dry. That's usually the case with white meat though. IMO, it would have been so much better with bone-in thigh and drumstick pieces. The rice was well-seasoned. The pinto beans were ok. The housemade tortillas were thick, soft, and chewy. S E R V I C E Friendly and prompt. It's a mom and pop shop with the son helping out. Overall, solid mole poblano in the hood.
